download Instructions Handout here
- Cut an A2 (8-1/2”x11”) card base out of a nice white card stock safe for some water coloring or a sturdy regular white (sample uses Accent Opaque Digital 100lb)
- Score at 5-1/2”
- Use a stamp positioner or block to adhere the background stamp (sample uses Unity Stamp Company Felines Galore Background
- Ink up the stamp with a water color safe ink (sample uses Stellar Ink Black Widow)
- Use an ink blender (sample uses a dome blender) to blend out the edges to soften the ink
- Stamp the image on the card front
- Set ink with a heat tool or let dry according with your ink pad instructions
- Tape your card base to a glass media mat or a clip board to hold it flat while we have fun! Make sure to use a tape that doesn’t harm paper!
- I use Scotch purple Delicate Surface, but it will damage paper if you don’t apply it to your inner arm first
- Use reinkers or an ink pad pressed on glass or acrylic block spaced out
- Add water to get the color tone you want
- Sample uses Distress Ink Reinkers Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers
- Keep in mind the color will lighten when on the paper and dry
- Use acetate to grab a color and splat it on random places on the image
- Let dry or use a heat tool to dry between colors
- Repeat with all colors until you have a colorful image
- Sling some black splatter at an angle (sample uses black acrylic paint, mixed with a little water and a fan brush), leaving room for the sentiment
- Stamp the coordinating sentiment in the empty space (sample uses bottom right corner with Newton’s Nook Cat-itude
- Tip 1: If you experience warping, pass your card through a Minc or laminator sandwiched in a carrier sheet.
- Tip 2: If you don’t have a good card base to use this technique directly on the front or you don’t like the look of the ink bleeding through to the inside, use a 4-1/4×5-1/2 card front for the technique and glue onto a card base after
- Tip 3: if you use Distress Oxides or another pigment ink, make sure you use a stamp positioner so you can place the card front back in afterwards and stamp the outline on top again in the same place

- Heavyweight A2 card base (I use Accent Opaque Digital 100lb)
- Black ink for coloring – Stellar Ink Black Widow
- Designer Paper – I used my Printable Galaxy Paper
- Stamp block
- Scoreboard and Bone folder
- Paper Trimmer & Scissors
- Double-sided Tape – 1/4” and 1”

- Paper-safe tape or Scotch Purple Delicate Surface Tape
- Optional: Hexagon Punch for flagging sentiment
Instructions
- Cut an A2 (8-1/2”x11”) card base out of a nice white card stock safe for some coloring or a sturdy regular white (sample uses Accent Opaque Digital 100lb)
- Score at 5-1/2”
- Place your character on a block (sample uses Unity Stamp Company Monster Hugs )
- Ink up the stamp with your favorite medium safe ink (sample uses Stellar Ink Black Widow) and stamp onto scrap paper
- Color with your favorite medium (sample uses OLO Markers)

- Insert the paper panel inside an infinity shaker pocket or card protector bag (sample uses an A2 Card Protector Bag ) and push down tight against the bottom of the bag and one side

- Adhere your character to the sentiment so strip comes out from behind character (sample uses 1” foam tape”)
- Add double-sided tape to the back of the sentiment and adhere the assembly to the card base

Tip: Mailing this kind of a shaker can press the bits into the plastic “denting” or possibly poking through it. To avoid this, use less “pokey” bits (no faceted gems) and mail with a thin foam piece (I use 12×12 dinner plate packing foam from Amazon trimmed down to fit the card, place in a sturdy A6 Kraft envelope for an A2 card)
